About our Title 1 Facilitator - Ms. Lovett-Harp:
Ms. Lovett has lived in Brooksville since before she was one. She attended Moton Elementary, Brooksville Elementary, Mitchell L. Black Elementary, Parrott MS, and Hernando HS. She attended PHCC for two years and then earned her B.S. in Business Administration from the University of West Florida. Following her education Ms. Lovett moved to Maryland to work at Capstone Properties where she managed privatized student housing for students at Towson University in Baltimore and the University of Maryland in College Park. She moved back to Brooksville in 2003 and continued serving students at universities in Texas, Alabama, Maryland, and Florida for Capstone Properties. Following her time at Capstone Properties Ms. Lovette spent some time exporing the south east and the various opportunites for her talents and decided that she wanted to be a teacher. Luckily she chose Parrott to start her teaching career and spent about two years with us before taking the opportiunity to be part of Explorer K-8's inital staff as a middle school PE teacher and their middle school electives team leader for three years. The next stop in Ms. Lovet's teaching career was at Fox Chapel where she spent two years as a Critical Thinking teacher in the FastForward Lab followed by 2+ years as their Title I Facilitator. Ms. Lovett came back to the Parrott family in November of 2016 as our Title I Facilitator. When not at Parrott she spends her time raising her three young children as a single parent. She spends the college football season traveling to Tallahassee with her season ticket to Doak Campbell Stadium to watch the Florida State University Seminoles take on their challengers.
About our Language Arts and Social Studies Coach - Mr. Cermak
Mr. Cermak was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, and attended St. Leo College - now known as St. Leo University. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Public Speaking and also has endorsements in Reading, ESOL, Middle Grades Language Arts 6-8, English 6-12, and Coaching. Mr. Cermak has been teaching language arts for 37 years – 34 of which were right here at Parrott. He also spent a year and a half at Hernando High School and one semester at West Hernando Middle School. Some of the many additional duties Mr. Cermak has performed for us at Parrott over the years are as follows: DSPMS Team Leader; Language Arts Department Chair; Athletic Director; Production Assistant; Six Traits Trainer; Writing Coach; Student Government sponsor for 9th grade 1977-1983; baseball coach 1979-1985; girls’ basketball coach 1977-1980; volleyball coach 1986 (DSPMS); varsity girls’ basketball coach 1981-1985; varsity softball coach 1985-1988; varsity girls’ basketball coach 1987-2000; and 9th grade boys’ basketball coach 1986 (HHS). Currently Mr. Cermak is the Instructional Practices Coach assisting the teachers in reading, language arts and Social Studies. He also believes that one of his responsibilities as a staff member at Parrott is to assist each and every student to believe that success in education can be achieved by anyone. Mr. Cermak enjoys the camaraderie of the administration and staff at Parrott in addition to working with our teachers and students. You can find him almost anywhere on campus – classrooms, computer labs, the media center, or administration - basically anywhere except his office. A fun fact about Mr. Cermak is that he loves St. Patrick’s Day! He is always willing to talk to any parent about their child’s education so contact him as soon as you have a question or concern.
About our Reading Coach - Mrs. Neal
Mrs. Neal has been teaching reading at Parrott for 4 years and is also the reading department head. She comes to us from Illinois and then St. Pete until 5th grade. Upon moving to Hernando Mrs. Neal attended Brooksville Elementary, Parrott Middle School, and Hernando High School. She earned a Bachelor Degrees in Elementary Education and ESE from USF St.Pete and a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from Saint Leo University. Before she began teaching Mrs. Neal worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Spring Hill Regional and Pharmacy Technician at CVS Pharmacy. You can find Mrs. Neal in her room teaching reading or in the PLC room doing professional development classes for all of our teachers. According to Mrs. Neal she loves teaching reading because it gives her the opportunity to change her students' lives everyday. Whether it is students or teachers, she loves to spread her joy of learning! What Mrs. Neal loves most about Parrott is that "we are all a family". An interesting fact about Mrs. Neal is that she was chosen as a Teacher Leader in Hernando County for the 2014-2015 school year and had the opportunity to attend a Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game to be recognized for her achievement!
About our STEM Coach (Science, Math & Technology) - Mr. Roberts
Mr. Roberts grew up in New York City and went to Flushing H.S., Nassau Community College and finally Dowling College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Natural Science in 1982. He returned to Dowling College in 1990 for Computer Science and again in 2003 for Aeronautical Science. In 2004 Mr. Roberts moved to Florida after retiring from KeySpan Energy in NYC (now National Grid) where he gained experience in power generation, nuclear physics, industrial engineering and information technology - he was there for 34 years! Mr. Roberts is certified by the FDOE in Physics, and Middle Grades General Science. He has also been certified to teach AP Physics by the College Board, and by Kaplan to teach their SAT/ACT math and science prep courses. In 2010 Mr. Roberts received certification as a Florida Digital Educator from the Florida Center for Instructional Technology at USF.
Mr. Roberts started his teaching career at Hernando H.S. in 2005 as their Physics teacher. In 2011 he transferred to Hernando eSchool as their first full-time science teacher, and joined us at Parrott in 2014 as the IP Coach for Science. Since he started teaching in Hernando County Mr. Roberts has taught Middle School Science Grades 6, 7 and 8, Biology, Computer Programming, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Marine Science, Physical Science, Physics, and AP Physics.
In his personal life Mr. Roberts is a pilot, a master scuba diver, and an underwater photographer. He loves technology, scuba diving, flying airplanes, biking, tennis, boating, kayaking, reading and learning! An interesting fact about Mr. Roberts is that, when he and his wife moved to Florida in 2004, they flew their own plane from MacArthur Airport in Long Island, N.Y, to Pilot Country Airport in Hudson, Florida. There were no long lines at the airport or speed traps to deal with - but they had to land for gas in Maryland and Georgia!
